Advice for new students
The sooner you start using the library, the better. Research has shown that the more a student engages with the library, the greater likelihood of them getting a higher grade degree.
We've gathered together all the key information we think you'll need to get started. If you need help with anything, please get in touch - we're here to help.
StartSmart - Managing your studies
We’re here to help you adapt to learning at university. We’ve developed an e-learning guide that introduces you to learning at the University, explains the types of teaching you can expect, and shows you how to become a successful independent learner. Independent learning is an incredibly important skill to develop: it is your course, helping you reach your goals and it is up to you to stay organised, to do the work and to put in the effort.
International Student Support

If English is not your first language, or if you are new to studying in the UK, it is essential that you familiarise yourself with the help and University guidance available to you before you begin your studies.
Studying in a different language or environment presents additional challenges to you as a learner, therefore we have created this page of resources so that you can begin your learning journey as soon as possible, with the confidence of knowing you are able to meet the expectations of the University.
