Make the most of student life
Graduation might feel like it's right around the corner or a lifetime away. Either way, your time as a Salford student is an opportunity to find your passions, try new things, explore your environment and make friends for life. Here are just a few things you can do to make the most of uni life.
Try something new this year
When you first join the University, there's a lot to get your head around - whether that's the right way to reference or navigate the 50 bus schedule. Now you're (hopefully) feeling more at home and ready to expand your horizons. This Trimester, take the opportunity to try something new. Who knows? Maybe you'll find a new passion!
You could...
Join a society
We have over 50 student-led societies covering all aspects of life, from academics to liberation, politics to performance and international to faith. Whether you're looking to try out crochet, motorsports or hosting your own radio show, there's something for everyone.
Try out a sport or fitness class
Hockey. Cheerleading. Ultimate frisbee. If there's a sport or class you want to try out, here's your chance! Remember, everyone's a beginner at first, so give it a go this year.
Go to an event
Our teams host events every week that will help you take your mind off your studies, meet new friends, boost your knowledge and skills or explore your next steps after university.
Worried about coming to an event solo? We know that it can feel a bit nerve-wracking but honestly, loads of people do it and it’s a great way to meet students who are also looking to connect. You won’t be the only one, and you might even find it easier to chat without the pressure of sticking with a group.
Take your studies overseas
You could take your university experience to the next level by studying or working overseas. We have partnerships across the globe, from Australia and the USA, to Norway and Vietnam. Worried about the cost? You may qualify for funding or grants.
Explore local hotspots
Not found your top spots in Salford and Manchester yet? Now's your chance! Or maybe you're just looking to try somewhere new. We have lots of guides to help you make the most of the cities on your doorstep.
Grow your social circle
If you don't feel like you've found your group at Salford just yet, don't worry. Lots of the people around you will be feeling the exact same way. It can be intimidating to try something new - especially if you don't know anyone at first - but joining a society or coming along to an event is a great first step and you could meet friends for life.
Another great way to make connections is by joining the SU's Connectors Programme. The programme hosts conversations in small groups run by students, for students, designed to help you form genuine friendships and develop your confidence in meeting new people. It’s not about small talk, it’s about meaningful conversations and finding your people.
Heading back to campus?
