Returning students guide

Trimester 1 is fast approaching and we can't wait to welcome you back! We know there's a lot to remember as you settle into a new academic year. That's why we've put everything you need to know to get back into studying, make the most of student life and start planning for the future - all in one place. Grab a brew and complete each step below to make sure you're ready for the new trimester.

Step 1: Complete Your Returning Checklist

There are a handful of things you need to do before you start to ensure you can continue your studies and set yourself up for success. If you're studying on campus, you'll also have a few things to do when you arrive too. Don't worry, they're quick and easy and, once you've completed this checklist, you're ready to get back into your studies. Let's go!

Before returning

  • Make sure you register before teaching starts. (You only need to register if you receive an email invitation - not all students have a September start date.)
  • Read the important information in your student terms and conditions carefully before you register for the new academic year as changes apply.
  • Check your timetable using our brand new system that launched this September. Timetables for the 2026/2027 academic year are currently being prepared. You'll receive an email when they are ready. Remember to check your timetable weekly in case anything changes.
  • Moved address? Got a new phone number? Remember to keep your details up to date so you don't miss important updates about your course.
  • Are you up to date with vaccinations? Make sure you have received your MMRMenACWY and HPV vaccines to help protect yourself and others against potentially serious illnesses including meningitis, measles and cervical cancer.
  • Get financially ready by learning about budgeting and how to manage your money.
  • Check if you're eligible for a scholarship or bursary.
  • Purchase a TV licence if you watch live TV on any device, and if you watch BBC programmes.
