What are the features of SafeZone?
- Get the latest campus updates – if something last minute happens on campus, such as a building closure, we’ll send you a message alert.
- Check in if you’re studying/working late or are alone - this helps Security with their emergency responses and gives you reassurance that someone has your back.
- Contact Security quickly and discreetly – when you feel unsafe or spot something suspicious that needs an urgent response, tap the ‘Emergency’ button. Security will then contact you by phone or through the in-app messaging.
- Request First Aid - if you or another person nearby needs medical assistance, you can use the app to get help from a qualified first-aider.
If you have a less serious but still urgent health problem, you can call the National Health Service advice line on 111 or use 111 online.
If you’ve run out of your prescribed medicines, find out how to get an emergency prescription.
If you are seriously hurt or unwell, you can go to your nearest Accident and Emergency department, or call 999 to ask for an ambulance. Salford Royal Hospital M6 8HD and Manchester Royal Infirmary M13 0HY both have Accident and Emergency departments.

What happens if I can't connect to the internet during an emergency?
You'll need an internet connection to access all app features. If your connection drops, you'll see the option to call 999. In most cases when you lose signal, you'll be able to call 999 as your phone will automatically connect to the strongest available signal for the emergency call.
