Biography

I am a Senior Lecturer with significant experience in teaching and managing undergraduate and post graduate programmes. I am fortunate and proud to be a long-standing member of staff and having be part of several curriculum developments as well as working under 6 Heads of School. I enjoy the role of being the Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) Lead for the School of Health and Society responsible for processing of both APEL for Entry as an alternative entry and for credit from a programme of study .

I am a Registered Nurse and qualified as a Registered Midwife, having been a Sister in Intensive Care and Heart Care and Senior Ward Sister in the NHS, I joined Nurse Education in 1981 and the University of Salford 1996 with the transition of Schools of Nursing and Midwifery to Higher Education. I have completed 2 teaching qualifications: Registered Clinical Nurse Teacher and Registered Nurse Tutor (Cert Ed) having taken these has full time programmes. I hold a BSc (Hons) Nursing, MSc Practitioner Research and MA Education and have held significant External Examiner positions.

I was pleased to have been seconded to the former Business Unit at the university in 2009 where we developed work-based learning for use both internal and external to the University of Salford, from single modules to a post graduate award. I am the joint module lead for WBL and this work has continued to develop and is being implemented on several programmes in the university and taken up by various sectors of the community and NHS and is part of the promotion for widening participation.

I was privileged to be part of an initial small group to set up the first School’s Service Users and Carers group and with colleagues received the Harold Riley Award, significant developments have taken place and this is working well now within the school acknowledge the importance of service user and carer input.

I have been a Link Tutor for many years at Salford Royal NHS Trust and also been a PLACE assessor, Patient Led Assessments of Care Environments which enabled me to shave a more informed view of the NHS.
