As an occupational therapist I am concerned with promoting health and wellbeing through engagement in meaningful occupations across the age span. Occupations include everything we do on a daily basis and as an academic I am interested in the evidence behind what we do affects how we feel which is particularly relevant to those experiencing problems in these areas due to transition, illness, trauma, disability or environmental difficulties. I have clinical (forensic mental health), managerial and educational experience within the field of occupational therapy.
As a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy I am interested in the student learning experience. I am able to demonstrate innovative curriculum design and delivery specifically in the use of eLearning and the online learning experience.
Currently I am Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy and co-Programme Leader (Exams) for the MSc Advanced OT programme delivered online. I teach at undergraduate and post graduate level and supervise MSc Dissertation students.
I am particularly interested in the relationship of occupation to health and wellbeing for an individual and a community. The development of the app Occubuzz (free from all apple ad google stores) enables people to develop an understanding of their own relationship with their daily occupations. This is an area of research and evaluation that I am currently involved in.
In addition, the use of online social networks for professional development, networking and developing professional on line identity and presence is also an area for my research interests. I am engaged with this at national and international levels with international group OT4OT and the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.
