Moira McLoughlin

Senior Lecturer & Student Experience Lead

I have worked in Higher Education since 1996 initially part time and then in 2002 full time, becoming a Senior Lecturer in 2003. My Masters dissertation was in education where I explored the role of the facilitator in a problem-based learning curriculum. Prior to entering the University I worked in children's nursing clinical practice for 15 years and set up one of the first job share Sister roles in 1988. I became the Student Experience Lead in January 2008 joining the School executive team in 2009, this role focused more specifically on the student journey from pre-induction through to completion of the programme. I review for Nurse Education journals, have been a member of numerous conference committees and since 1997 have linked internationally with 2 Universities in Sweden to support students with Erasmus exchange, namely Linkoping and Maladarlen. In 2013 I set up the @nursingSUni School Twitter working in partnership with students and colleagues to enhance the role of social media in education and supporting students and with the help of a small team this account has gone from strength to strength with 2 members recently receiving the JISC award of most influential on social media in 2014

I support CYP - MA students undertaking the MA dissertation module. I lead on the MA (IENP - implementing evidence in nursing practice) module in year 2 of the programme. I am currently the Safeguarding lead for the School in the University and have taught safeguarding and child protection since 1999.
