Currently I am the Technical Manager for the UKAS accredited testing laboratory 1262.
I control the technical aspects of the UKAS accredited laboratory, which provides in-house testing services on a commercial basis to industry, government departments and individuals.
Accreditation currently covers testing of acoustic materials for sound insulation and absorption, and the laboratory is the only UK laboratory accredited to carry out testing of hearing protection devices and the measurement of silencer performance. The laboratory does not only concentrate on accredited testing; other acoustic projects range from concert halls to computer fans.
I look at a project from a holistic, practical view rather than a purely academic one. This is probably due to my history, as a timed-served apprentice with Massey Ferguson BDR, which introduced me to the field of research and development. Students, clients, work colleagues and various committees including the EH/001/06 Building acoustics BSI Committee who have found this practical approach a useful trait.
