Final Year Students' Guide
We know there’s a lot to think about as you finish your studies. To make things a bit easier, we’ve broken down the key things you need to do and know into three achievable steps.
Before you go checklist
There are a few things you’ll need to do before you officially leave the University. This is to ensure you can attend graduation and access services as an alumnus (more on that below!).
- Check your name and contact details are correct, so we can get in touch with key information, including graduation updates.
- Update your Advantage account to a Graduate Advantage account to access careers support and to request a proof of study letter if you need a visa for graduation.
- Return your Library books and any equipment you’ve borrowed. If it’s not returned you won’t be able to attend graduation. Also, if you return between 28 April and 16 May you'll automatically be entered into a competition to win a £100 Uber Eats Voucher!
- Spend any Inspire funds you've been allocated. Funds expire when your course finishes, so make use of the free money now.
- If you have been accessing disability support through an agency, let your support know you have finished university and will not be returning next year.
- Graduating this Summer? Don’t forget to register and hire your gown by 6 June 2025.
Finishing Your Assessments

Looking to the future
Your relationship with the University doesn't end when you graduate. Instead you'll be part of a global alumni community of over 200,000+ graduates. 'Alumni' means you are a former student and graduate, which is pretty important as you'll continue to receive lifelong support from us as you begin the next stage of your life and career. This includes:
- From Salford - our free networking and mentoring hub
- Lifetime access to our Careers and Enterprise service
- 20% discount on postgraduate courses
- Invitations to our alumni events
- Support to volunteer and help the next generation of Salford students

Postgraduate Study
Alumni are eligible for a 20% loyalty discount on a range of postgraduate courses. A postgraduate degree gives you the opportunity to continue studying, progress in your chosen career or change direction. You can explore your postgraduate options by:
- Joining our Postgraduate Discovery Month in June 2025. We have a range of online and in person events throughout the month.
- Attending our Salford Postgraduate Annual Research Conference (SPARC) on Wednesday 25 June to discover research. You'll meet current research students, learn about the amazing research being carried out and see if it’s for you!

Ongoing Careers Support
You have lifetime access to the Careers & Enterprise service. This includes careers and business advice, access to employability events, including our career fairs and masterclasses.
