Professor David Spicer

Dean, Salford Business School


David joined Salford Business School as Dean in February 2016. Previously he worked at the University of Bradford’s Faculty of Management and Law where he had undertaken a range of roles including Associate Dean, MBA Director, and Senior Lecturer in Organisational Change and was until most recently the Interim Dean. His first career was in retail where he worked in both store operations and HRM for Woolworths PLC.


Organisational Change, Leadership, Organisational Behaviour and HRM, on undergraduate, postgraduate and executive education courses.

Research Interests

David’s research interests lie in the study of learning and change in organizations, specifically organizational learning, change agency and leadership, relationships between individual and organizational learning, relationships between learning, motivation and effectiveness, the role played by the individual learner and the impact and assessment of cognitive/learning style. His current research is concerned with strategic adaptation and the development of dynamic capabilities.

PhD Supervision

I am currently supervising doctoral students on the following topics:

  • organisational learning and strategic change
  • strategic HRM and leadership

I would be interested in supervising future doctoral students in:

  • organisational learning and strategic change
  • strategic HRM and leadership
