I've applied - what happens next?

Your next steps will depend on if you have applied for your course via UCAS, or directly to the university.

If you applied via UCAS, the information on this page outlines your next steps.

If you applied directly to the university for any of the following types of study, visit our 'I've applied directly - what happens next?' page for your next steps:

  • Part-time courses
  • BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies (top-up)
  • Degree Apprenticeship programmes
  • International Foundation Year or Pre-sessional English courses

Track your application

The simplest way to monitor the progress of your application is via the UCAS Hub, which updates your application status as soon as any changes occur. If you have any questions about your application, there are a number of ways for you to contact UCAS via their How can we help? page. You can also speak to our admissions team on applications@salford.ac.uk or +44 (0)161 295 4545 (choose option 2).

Receiving an offer to study with us

There are two types of offer you can receive: an unconditional or a conditional offer.

Unconditional offer

If you receive an unconditional offer from us and then decide to choose us as your firm choice, the place is yours – you’ll be joining the University of Salford!

Conditional offer

If you receive a conditional offer from us and then decide to choose us as your firm choice, the place is yours provided you meet the specific conditions of your offer. You will be able to see these conditions on the UCAS Hub. It’s really important that you satisfy all the conditions of your offer, not just those that relate to your academic grades.

A few examples of the types of conditions you might have to meet include:

  • Achieving 120 UCAS points or 3 Grade Bs in your A-levels
  • Producing your GCSE certificates for Maths and English
  • Producing a portfolio of work
  • Paying a tuition fee deposit

If you’re unsure, you can check this with our admissions team by calling +44 (0)161 295 4545 (choose option 2). It’s really important that each of your conditions are met, so please make sure you read these carefully.

For some of our most popular courses within the School of Health and Society, which require an interview, we may hold applications. This means that it may be a little later in the application cycle before you can expect to hear back from us with a decision, but we will always make sure you’re updated in line with the key dates set by UCAS.

Contextual offer-making

We are proud of our diverse and inclusive student community and are committed to removing barriers to higher education. We recognise that factors like social or financial challenges can affect your education journey, so we use a contextual offer making approach. A contextual offer is a lower entry requirement for a university course made to students who have faced personal circumstances that may have affected their academic performance. Find out more about this on our contextual offers page.

Replying to your offer

You should reply to your offers through the UCAS Hub. You do not need to reply to any offers until all of the universities or colleges you applied to have notified you of their decisions. You can find out more about the different replies you can make, and when you need to do this, on the UCAS website.

Using the Applicant Portal

If your offer requires you to have an interview, we will send you an email inviting you to register for our Applicant Portal. Here you will be able to keep track of your application, review information related to your interview and upload any documents that are required by the admissions team.

Accepting or declining your offer
Firm acceptance

This is your first choice and if you meet the entry requirements specified in your offer, your place is confirmed. Please note that there are some courses within the health professions which will require additional conditions to be fulfilled once you have met any academic conditions. These are things like a DBS and Health check. You will be given more information about this once you have met your academic conditions.

Insurance acceptance

This is your backup choice, in case you do not meet the entry requirements of your first choice. It’s a good idea to choose an offer with lower requirements as an insurance choice.

Decline

Once you have decided on a firm and insurance choice, you will automatically decline all other offers.

Take a virtual tour

Take a virtual tour of our campus and facilities from the comfort of your own home using our virtual experience platform. You can also find lots of resources about your course, accommodation and student life at Salford on there.

Fees and funding

When you come to university, it’s important to manage your money carefully. Our student support service, askUS, offers information and advice on all aspects of student finance, whether you’re a current or prospective student.

Wellbeing and support

Your university days can be the most exciting time of your life, but they can also be challenging. Whatever your personal circumstances, we want to make your Salford experience a positive one, which is why we've created a dedicated, specialist support service, askUS.

askUS can offer you help and advice on a wide range of issues, including wellbeing and counselling, disability support, money and finances, accommodation, faith, carer support and more.

If you have a disability, mental health condition or if you think you might need emotional support while you're at university, it's important that you have support in place before you start. If you need support, we need to know about it as early as possible, so we can help you whenever you may need it.

Applying for student accommodation

If you've been offered a place to study with us, another important decision you'll make is where you're going to live. If you’d like to live in student accommodation, our partnered accommodation is managed by Campus Living Villages (CLV). Room bookings open in the spring, and we'll contact all offer holders when this happens.

If you’d prefer to live off-campus or will be commuting from home, we can also support and advise you to ensure you're getting the most out of your time studying with us.

Jargon buster

We know that applying to university can be confusing at the best of times, not least because you come up against a lot of words and acronyms that might be new to you. To help you out, we’ve put together a handy jargon buster page to help you understand the world of university lingo!

Information for parents and supporters

If you're a parent, carer or supporter of a student applying to study with us, you'll likely have a few questions of your own about the application process, as well as any deadlines that need to be met for an application to be considered.

We've put together a handy guide just for you, to keep you up to date with key facts and information about our university and how your son or daughter can apply to start their studies with us. We also have a monthly Student Supporters' email newsletter, as well as regular online events to have your questions answered by our team.

FAQs

If you have a question about your application, you can contact us at anytime. We've also put together a list of frequently asked questions, so check these out first to find out if your question has already been answered by our team.
