Biography
A graduate from the University of Salford, I spent many years in industry with such companies as Marconi and Ferranti on advanced radar systems and radar processing integrated circuits. After a short period in the RAF, I joined academia, at Sheffield, Leeds Polytechnic and finally here at Salford.
During this time I became a professional pilot, becoming the Chief Training Captain for a small airline. I conduct training courses for Flight Instructors and Flight Examiners, and conduct flight tests for both. I also conduct flight tests for the issue of Commercial Pilots’ Licenses and Instrument Ratings.
I am actively involved in the wider world, being a member of the Royal Aeronautical Society’s Accreditation Committee, the Guild of Air Pilots and Navigators’ Education and Training Committee and Edexcel's working group on the National Apprenticeship Scheme.
I teach in two main areas: Electronic Engineering, specifically specialising in Avionic Systems, and aviation Safety, including Crew Resource Management and Human Factors.
I have particular interest in the History of Technology.
