Biography
Marian graduated from the Birmingham School in 2001, with a BSc (Hons) degree in Podiatry. Soon after qualifying, she spent a short time in private practice, before joining the teaching team full-time at the school; firstly as Clinical Facilitator and then Lecturer. For the last 17 years, Marian has been a Senior Podiatry Lecturer, with responsibility for teaching undergraduate Podiatrists. Whilst teaching, Marian gained the opportunity to become involved in Podiatric surgery and provided surgical assistance to the resident Podiatric surgeon and Head of School. She also secured an honorary contract as Senior House Officer & Podiatric Surgical Assistant, for Dudley Primary Care Trust. In 2007, Marian began a management role within the department, as Podiatry Programme Manager, which involved management of both the Podiatry programme and teaching team. Marian commenced her current role in the University of Salford, at the close of 2017.
Over her 20-year career as a Podiatry Lecturer, Marian’s main areas of focus have been on the sharing of knowledge and therefore both teaching and teaching quality; these areas have, and continue to be, her passion. Indeed, she has always enjoyed the part she plays in the education of Podiatry undergraduates and particularly their transformation into professional, autonomous practitioners. However, in 2016, due to her special interest in surgery, Marian went on to complete an MSc in the Principles of Podiatric Surgery, with her final dissertation submission, being a Research by Design project. This design was for a large randomised controlled trial, which aimed to investigate a potentially new approach to nail surgery for ingrown toenail. She therefore hopes to progress her studies to PhD level in the future, in this area.
