Biography

On qualifying as a Podiatrist in 1983, Jill obtained a Podiatry post at City and Hackney, London.  Here, she took up a keen interest in sports and podopaediatric injuries, was involved in collaborative research projects studying plantar foot pressures in adults and children, and was contracted out for 1 day a week as a clinical tutor in podiatry at the University of Westminster.

Following on from this Jill became a full-time academic at the University of Salford and has been involved in the design and delivery of several post-graduate programmes in the area of foot and gait problems in adults and/or children.  In 1994, she completed a part-time course in Developmental Paediatrics (University of Manchester) and attended the ‘Clinical Gait Analysis Instructional Course’ (J.R. Gage and colleagues).  These highlighted the limited knowledge on foot function in children and the need for research.  Jill later went on to investigate foot function in children during normal development and this led to the award of her PhD in 2010.

Jill has also undertaken consultancy work, which has included lecturing and advisory work for Clarks footwear company.
