I completed my social work qualification in 1985, and worked for Greater Manchester Probation Service until 2001, as a Probation Officer, Family Court Welfare Officer and latterly in Training and Staff Development.

I then moved into part time roles in social work and Probation education, as a social work practice tutor for the University of Manchester, as university teacher on the Community Justice programme at the University of Liverpool and Associate Lecturer in social work with The Open University. I joined the University of Salford as a part time member of the Practice Learning Team in 2005.

I have 20 years’ experience (1980 – 2000)working with a women’s refuge as volunteer, management committee member and trustee.

I am Deputy Editor of Social Work Education: The International Journal http://www.tandfonline.com/toc/cswe20/current

Teaching

Current teaching responsibilities include module leadership on the ‘Step Up to Social Work’ programme for Social Work & Society, and Research Mindedness in Practice.

I also undertake Masters level dissertation supervision.

Much of my research relates to social work education, its relationship with and contribution to a collective professional identity for social work, and to the destinations and experiences of qualified social workers inside and outside the statutory sector.
