Current positions

Lecturer in Wildlife and Organismal Biology

Biography

I completed my studies for my BSc honours in Biological Science in 2002 at the University of Salford.

I then went on to postgraduate studies at the University of Salford in 2003. I was one of the 1st cohorts of Graduate Teaching Assistants to study for a PhD in this manner at Salford. This mode of study helped to develop my interests in teaching, learning, student support and experience. During the time I was studying my PhD I also became a part time member of teaching staff, I began part time teaching in biology to social science students in 2006 then went on to teach wildlife students (2007). I became a full time member of staff in 2009.

In 2009 I became the admissions tutor for the two undergraduate wildlife programmes.

Teaching

My primary teaching is across all levels of the wildlife programmes. I coordinate modules; across levels of undergraduate study; Personal and Academic Development, Field Biology, Wildlife Research Skills and Applied Freshwater Biology. I also contribute to field courses.

Research Interests

My research was in the area of parasitology using molecular techniques to detect Toxoplasma gondii in wild mice populations, particularly in areas where there is an absence of definitive hosts such as the cat. I also began a blind study to detect the parasite from the umbilical cord of human newborn babies
