Biography
I had stints at the BBC on reportage for those of you who remember it and also on Granada tonight where there will be some old footage in a dusty cupboard somewhere of me on a pogo stick. I interviewed Mark Hughes after we won the double there too. I worked at Vector TV in 1997 and sneakily helped with lighting on the Royle family. I became a lecturer in 1998 and over the years I have I developed my knowledge from production to post and digital streaming. I have production, post production, compositing, graphics, idents and now my favourite codecs and compression knowledge. I also have an obsession for After Effects to create cool idents.
However I am working on creating Cartoons for the deaf and Pugh is under development. As seen in the iphone app link.
Subject skills:
I am the MSc Digital Media:VAST programme leader and teach post production and compositing. My expertise is animated graphics and television engineering on the BSc Professional Sound and Video technology course. I am an expert in broadcast systems and digital workflows as well as teaching codecs. I supervise dissertations on BSc PSVT, MSc VAST. I teach Audio, video, post production to the level 6 students on BSc Multimedia and internet Technology
I am a certified teacher of Adobe After effects.
Technical skills:
Beta SP, Panasonic DV and Canon DV Cameras, Sony EX3, Sony HCX100.Adobe Premiere Pro and AVID non linear. Adobe after effects 3D, IPTV and video compression technology. Vectorscopes and broadcast (IRE/IEEE) standards. I am also a member of SMPTE.
I am passionate about using technology for the greater good and currently I am to developing software using 3D animation for hearing impaired children named Pugh found on the app store. I created the character animation in clay initially and then converting this to 3D using Maya and blender. I am as part of this project using mocap to create accurate animations.
My other research interests lie in codecs and compression and how vector based, GPS tracking could improve the quality of compression.
