Biography

I am an artist and a curator.

I studied BA (Hons) in Fine Art at The University of Reading between 1997-2001 during which I undertook a semester abroad at Rutgers, State University of New Jersey, where I studied Video Art and Politics under Martha Rosler. In 2006 I gained my MPhil from The University of Birmingham, where my research focused on the work of black British artists Isaac Julien and Steve McQueen.

Between 2009 – 2012 I was Artistic Director at Hereford Photography Festival, the longest running annual photography festival in the UK, founded in 1980.

Teaching

Module leader: Introduction to Frameworks (Level 4); Contexts & Narratives (Level 5); Opportunities and Industry (Level 5)

Contributing to modules: Developing Frameworks (Level 5) and Applied Frameworks (Level 6) and Independent Research Project (IRP)

Research Interests

My recent interest in Quantum Physics has come via the identity politics of Judith Butler to Karen Barad and then to Nobel Prize winning physicist Niels Bohr. Starting from Bohr’s Copenhagen Interpretation which theorized that reality is only summoned into existence through the act of looking at it, my current photographic work aims to draw parallels between observation theory and identity formation.
