Bioscience - part of something bigger
When you start a bioscience course at Salford, you’re joining a welcoming community making a difference in our industry and wider society.
Our academics are working on collaborative, high-impact work on a range of global challenges providing our students with opportunities to get involved with this rewarding work.
Our Biomedical Research Centre brings together interdisciplinary expertise to explore healthcare and societal challenges. Working closely with local hospitals, other universities and research centres, our Centre leads high-quality, high-impact research to improve healthcare outcomes.
How much time will I have in the labs?
One word – lots! Your learning will be split between practical lab sessions where you will learn to use the equipment and carry out your own research projects, and lectures which will give you the theoretical foundation and knowledge for each module.
Will I need to purchase anything in advance of starting the course?
Nothing in particular, just kit yourself out with the usual pens, pencils and stationery. We will provide you with a lab coat and protective gear for practical sessions in our Bodmer laboratories. For each module, you will receive a reading list with recommended resources you can either buy, or access from our multimedia library.
Do you offer support to help students pay for their studies?
We offer a selection of scholarships to help you fund your postgraduate studies. Our Global Gold Excellence Scholarship is worth £3,000 and our Global Silver Excellence Scholarship is worth £2,500. Both of these scholarships are automatically deducted from your tuition fees.
We are located close to Manchester city centre which is a growing hub for businesses in the North of England. As a result, there are lots of opportunities to find part-time work in a variety of industries. We have an on-campus part-time recruitment agency, Unitemps, who can support you in finding a job within the university or at another local business. Our Careers and Enterprise team can also work with you to improve your CV and interview technique to secure a part-time job.
