How many guests can I bring?
All graduates that register to attend a ceremony may request up to two complimentary guest tickets. Guest tickets are for a seat in the theatre where the graduation ceremony takes place. Any child over the age of two must be included in your allocated tickets. Children up to the age of two may sit on an adult’s lap and will require a free ‘Child Under two’ ticket which you can add to the access requirements notes on the Registration booking pages.
Guest tickets will not be posted in advance, you will be able to collect tickets on the day from the Ticket Desk once you have completed Registration.
Please do bring additional guests along with you on your special day to support and celebrate with you, they will be able to watch the live stream of the ceremonies if they do not have tickets for the theatre. All graduation ceremonies are live streamed via YouTube and also at the MediaCity campus. This is free of charge and no booking is required. Once the ceremony closes, they can re-join you outside the Lowry for photos and any further celebrations you may have planned.
Occasionally we have additional tickets available on the day however, this is not guaranteed. If tickets are available, they will be sold on a first come, first served basis, priced at £16 each. Please ask at the Ticket Desk on the day if there are any available when you collect your complimentary guest tickets.
Can we bring children to the ceremony?
Children are welcome at the ceremonies and any children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Graduation ceremonies are approximately 1 hour 30 minutes, which can prove to be too long for younger children who may become restless. For the comfort of other guests, guardians may be asked to take any child that becomes agitated or distressed out of the Lyric Theatre and into the reception area.
Health and Safety regulations determine that all participants and guests at the ceremonies are to be seated, therefore Children over two years of age must have their own seat and must be included in your complimentary ticket allocation (max 2).
Children up to the age of two may sit on an adult’s lap but will require a free ‘Child Under 2’ ticket.
Alternatively, we have Busy Bees nursery for children aged three months to five years old, located on our Frederick Road Campus. You will need to make arrangements with the Busy Bees Nursery regarding sessions and availability of places. There will be a charge for this service and places are limited. Please allow sufficient time to drop your child off prior to the ceremony.
How do I arrange a visa letter for myself or for my overseas guests?
Once you have secured your graduation tickets, you can request a ‘Proof of Study’ letter including Graduation ceremony information from askUS Visas. This can be used for the visa application.
Further information on visas for Graduation can be found on our dedicated visa web page.
How much does graduation cost?
There is no charge for graduation. The only compulsory cost that you will incur is the hire of the academic gown and this is paid directly to Ede & Ravenscroft.
Official photographs and souvenirs will also be available for purchase on the day.
My guests need overnight accommodation, what is on offer?
The University has negotiated special rates with a number of local hotels. Please visit Offers for more information.
I, or a member of my graduation party, have access requirements, what should I do?
If you or a guest has an access requirement, please provide information about this in the box provided during your online registration and we will make appropriate arrangements or contact you to discuss them. Please inform the graduation team of any access requirements before 9 June 2023.
Will I still receive a certificate before attending/if I don't attend a ceremony?
Graduation ceremonies are a celebration of your degree award and not the actual awarding of your degree which happens after your final results. Therefore, you will receive your certificate via post around six to eight weeks after receiving your final result. The certificates webpage details this further.
What should I do if I have changed my name since registration?
If your name requires amendment, it must be updated before you submit your final piece of work or sit your last examination. Please email askus@salford.ac.uk to request this and attach evidence of your full and correct name (e.g. passport, driving license, deed poll). Please include your student ID number and full name in the email and include ‘URGENT: Name Change for Certificate’ in the subject heading of the message.
After your results have been ratified at the awards board and a results letter issued by your School Office, your name cannot be amended, except in line with the University’s Name Change Policy, which in most cases incurs a fee (currently £50.00).

We hope you will be able to join us for a future graduation event, our next set of ceremonies will take place w/c 27th November 2023 at Maxwell Hall. Please complete this form by the 31st August to let us know you would like to attend the winter ceremonies.

We've appointed Tempest Photography as our official graduation photography service. They offer professional individual and family portraiture and have a range of different packs and frame styles to suit all tastes and budgets. They will have a studio at the ceremony, which will be open throughout the day and you don't need to pre-book. In the interests of planning your day and to avoid the busiest period (immediately after your ceremony) we highly recommend visiting the studio before your ceremony. You will receive ‘proofs’ immediately after your session, enabling you to choose your preferred images for ordering. You can order on the day from the sales area or at any time thereafter via the Tempest website. There is no obligation to purchase professional photographs.
What should I wear for the ceremony?
The ceremony is a formal occasion, so graduates and guests are asked to dress appropriately. You are advised to wear dark trousers or a skirt under your robes and a buttoned shirt or blouse to secure the hood.
