You will consider the opportunities for organisations to operate in ways that enhance social equity. The module will explore redistributive practices, such as shared value creation, and use real world case studies to analyse the contribution of finance, HR and marketing in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. You will develop understanding of the role of accreditations and partnerships in driving change.
Regenerative Business Practice for Sustainable Futures

The module opens with an exploration of the urgent need for regenerative thinking, grounded in complex real-world dilemmas such as food security versus biodiversity loss, and fast fashion versus modern slavery to connect theory with the practical realities of global trade-offs. You will develop the skills to diagnose sustainability challenges and apply practical tools and emerging regenerative practices across core business functions in both global and local contexts.
Research Methods for Managers
This module aims to help develop useful, practical knowledge and skills in research methods for students ahead of their Dissertation, Consultancy Project, Internship or Entrepreneurial Development Project at the final stage of their MSc. Consideration is given to the conceptual framework that guides research as well as the methodological foundations. Students will develop the skills to research, interpret and evaluate information from a variety of business sources in order to frame the business/management/consultancy problem or develop their own business and present a plan of action and recommendations in an appropriate format.
AI Governance and Sustainability
This module will equip you with an in-depth understanding of the principles and practices of AI governance and sustainability, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12. You will explore how artificial intelligence can be harnessed to govern sustainable consumption and production, addressing global challenges such as resource efficiency, environmental impact, and ethical considerations in technology deployment. It will empower you with the skills to analyse the governance, implementation, and management of sustainability and sustainable development goals covering topics like the circular economy and the social, ethical, and environmental challenges in today's world.
Ethical and Responsible Leadership for Sustainability
You will gain critical perspectives on the concepts and practices of ethical-decision making for sustainability in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The module explores how ethical and responsible leadership of organisations can contribute to the pursuit of sustainability and the betterment of society. The module critically examines principles that underpin ethical decision-making and the organisational, legal and regulatory constraints upon this. You will critically examine a broad set of perspectives on the application of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SGD)s, and SDG 12 specifically, to strategic decision-making and stakeholder constraints. You will develop the skills to apply the concepts and practices of breakthrough capitalism and the creation of shared value.
Sustainable and Ethical Supply Chains
This module will develop your understanding of supply chains by providing a deeper focus on how they can be managed in sustainable and ethical ways and with consideration of pertinent carbon literacy components. Adopting a global perspective, you will consider how supply chains affect the economy, society, and environment in organisational decision-making. You will be introduced to the concepts of the triple bottom line, business ethics, corporate social responsibility, sustainable and resilient supply chains, circular economy versus closed-loop supply chains, humanitarian logistics, green/environmentally friendly product development, carbon literacy/reduction, and the role of governments. The module will give you the skills to make complex decisions across various organisational functions (procurement, manufacturing, distribution) and the wider supply chain.

What about after uni?
Current and future demand for sustainability graduates is strong.
According to the Institute of Sustainability Studies (2024), the sustainability job market is growing rapidly, with demand outpacing the supply of skilled professionals. Green jobs now represent over 50% of energy sector roles globally, and are expanding into finance, tech, and construction
There is a rising demand for sustainability skills with a growing emphasis on green skills and sustainable business practices across industries, driven by net-zero targets and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) regulations. This will drive increased demand for candidates with expertise in sustainable supply chains, carbon accounting, ESG reporting, and circular economy models.
Locally Manchester has the ambition to achieve Net Zero 2038, and the North West of England is home to major employers in energy, manufacturing, and public sector—all sectors under pressure to decarbonize and adopt sustainable practices.
Traditional professions are increasingly integrating sustainability into existing roles, driven by both regulatory requirements and social changes. The integration of practices such as decarbonisation, circular economy, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) into core operations, is increasing the demand for graduates with sustainability knowledge.
Career Links
This course has been designed in consultation with a range of partners spanning a number of different sectors, from multinational firms to international growth specialists to public-private partnership initiatives that grow international connectivity.
The course works with a number of organisations engaged in different aspects of international business, with guest speakers sharing their insights and experiences and client firms developing opportunities for consultancy projects and, with support from the Salford Business School Employability Hub, work-based internships and placements.
