Student midwife Declan Brown helped out on a home birth with a difference – the baby’s grandma is one of the senior lecturers on his course at the University of Salford.
Senior Lecturer in Midwifery, Sarah Davies, shared the good news about her family's new arrival on social media, and gave a special shout out to Declan.
Sarah posted on Twitter: “What a team! @MFT_SMH midwives today supported my daughter 2 give birth to her baby boy at home. Sally, Farhana and student midwife Declan from @SalfordUni @UoS_HealthSoc who took stunning photos! You're all stars #homebirth #midwifery #midwiferyskills #IloveNHS @kathymurphy0“
Sarah’s daughter Anna gave birth to baby Eliot at home, with the support of Declan and a midwifery team from St Mary’s Hospital, as well as her partner, Joe.
Declan also took a number of pictures for the family to help capture the precious first moments with their newborn baby.
Sarah's daughter Anna said: "Declan was a wonderful labour supporter! The beautiful photos he took we will treasure forever. He will make a brilliant midwife and any woman who plans a home birth should consider having a student midwife from Salford University with them!”
Declan, who hadn't met Sarah before being involved in the birth, said: "The home birth was such a lovely experience, something that I will take with me throughout my training and beyond. I felt really 'at home' with the family, they were all so welcoming.
"My late father was a photographer so taking pictures is something that I've grown up with. I understand this is such an important and intimate moment of life and I was happy to help to capture this for the family. I'm really pleased they like the photos!"
