Overview

This single module will help you to critically evaluate current evidence underpinning critical care in the childbirth continuum. It facilitates a multidisciplinary team approach when providing critical care. 

 

You will:

This module is delivered in a variety of ways including lectures, seminars, videos, discussion, case scenarios, reflective practice and individual tutorial support. 

Assessment

Assessment methods may include a Viva presentation and reflective practice portfolio.

  • Holistic care for women experiencing critical illness during childbirth
  • Portfolio development and reflective practice
  • Communication skills: with your patients, their family and multidisciplinary team.
  • The cultural, sociological, physiological and psychological needs of the women and their families, during critical illness

When accepting your offer of a place to study on a programme with optional modules, you should be aware that optional modules may not all run each year. Your tutor will be able to advise you as to the available options on or before the start of the programme. Entry requirements

Potential students looking to enrol on the module should be registered midwives, nurses (adult, CYP, MH), healthcare professions (OT, Physiotherapy, Podiatry), medical staff, nurse/industry advisors.

Previous study and experience

You will be a registered healthcare professional with active experience working in a clinical environment. 

You will need to demonstrate evidence of studying at level 5 / an ability to successfully undertake study at Level 6. 

Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)

We welcome applications from students who may not have formal/traditional entry criteria but who have relevant experience or the ability to pursue the course successfully.

The Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) process could help you to make your work and life experience count. The APL process can be used for entry onto courses or to give you exemptions from parts of your course.

Two forms of APL may be used for entry: the Accreditation of Prior Certificated Learning (APCL) or the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).
