Lecturer in International Event Management & the Business of Sport

BIOGRAPHY

I been delivering a global impact in Higher Education since starting my academic career in the UK in 2006 from being a passionate practitioner in the global events industry, working with sporting governing bodies, the arts and entertainment sectors to international education organisations. 

My previous academic roles included course and senior management responsibilities in HE. In my current role as a Lecturer at the University of Salford Business School, I lead three UG and PG degree programmes including a world’s first ground-breaking online UG degree programme in partnership with Leeds United Football Club - BSc Applied Football Studies. I continuously collaborate with industry to develop new programmes and innovative learning platforms and opportunities through short course development, accredited courses and blended and distance learning provision.

I have several years’ practitioner and academic experience within the sports event industry across the Middle East. I also have significant experience within the global events industry sector including the operations management of scheduling major sporting tournaments. I have worked extensively in Qatar over the past 5 years with the Josoor Institute who deliver the education and training provision for the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy for the FIFAä World Cup in 2022.

I have also delivered several major cultural events and festivals across the UK for over 10 years.

Teaching

I currently undertake several teaching roles including Programme Leader, Module Leader and Placement Tutor. I also teach across a broad range of subjects in the field of sport business and event management including, Contemporary Issues in Football, Sport in the Digital World, Volunteer Management, Managing International Events, Event Risk Strategy, Enterprise and Research, Sport and Society and Professional Practice.

Research Interests

My research interests include developing world class impact (case) studies across the functional areas of major and mega sporting events across the Middle East. I have a keen focus on event protocol and the delivery of cultural diversity in mega event delivery. I also have a keen intertest in the growing importance of volunteers in the global events industry.
