My clinical background is in surgical nursing (orthopaedic, ophthalmic and colo-rectal), neuro-medicine and nursing home care of older people. I have worked in Australia, UK and undertaken a nursing scholarship placement in the USA.
My work includes teaching pre-registration nurses and postgraduate nurses, health and social care professionals. I am one of the international leads for the School of Health and Society. I am interested in enhancing the care home experience of residents and staff within an active aging context.
My academic interests focus on evidence based practice, research methods, dementia care, care of older people, spiritual care and cancer care.
I teach and supervise on the School’s undergraduate, post qualified and post graduate programmes.
My research interests are primarily in the area of the care of older people; this includes nursing home care, dementia care and human rights based care.

I have been awarded a Vice-Chancellor’s research scholarship to study human rights based care in nursing homes (2008).
I have been awarded a Florence Nightingale scholarship to study how non-pharmacological care can improve the quality of life of people who have dementia (2011).
My publications are focussed on nursing home care of older people and human rights based care of older people.
I am a peer reviewer for nursing education and nursing journals.
