GRADUATION 2021: Rising comedy talent Charlotte Cropper says degree was “a whirlwind of amazing creative adventures”

Charlotte Cropper lives-and-breaths the television, comedy and media industries. Fresh from winning the Dean’s Award at the Create Student Awards 2021, on account of her outstanding levels of devotion and commitment, she will graduate from her BA (Hons) Media and Performance course with a plethora of experience and accolades under her belt, including a stint at Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Charlotte is primed for a bright future in comedy writing and performance. She was shortlisted as a finalist in the 2020-21 Chortle Student Comedy Awards, led by one of the largest comedy websites in the UK. She has written, produced and performed in the Salford Comedy Society Radio Show, pitched her work to BBC Three, and her one-woman sketch show was streamed as part of Funny Women’s International Women’s Day event.

In her first year she went to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as part of Salfunni, a group of aspiring and talented comedians from the University of Salford. The once-in-a-lifetime opportunity meant she was able to showcase her set over two weeks to a room full of comedy lovers.

“My time at the University of Salford has been a whirlwind of amazing creative adventures and I have truly loved every moment of my studies. I am so grateful to the Arts, Media and Creative Technology staff for continually supporting me and encouraging my industry engagements and performance projects. Thanks to their guidance over the past three years, I have been able to hone my artistry, collaborate with some incredible students and alumni and discover my true passions in TV, writing and comedy,” said Charlotte.

Charlotte is fresh from performing at last week’s Bruntwood Stage Takeover at Manchester’s Homeground. Not only did she hit the stage, the talented young comedian also worked behind-the-scenes throughout the five-day takeover as a Production Assistant, looking after artists on-site, as well as creating content for the New Adelphi Theatre and HOME's Instagram to highlight each night of great entertainment.
