Fashion Design graduate named as one to watch at Graduate Fashion Week

BA (Hons) Fashion Design graduate Charlotte O’Byrne has been named as one to watch at Graduate Fashion Week 2022 by the Guardian newspaper.

Using up-cycled materials ranging from fishing nets to spinners, Charlotte showcased a collection inspired by recreational fishing, an important subject for her as she used this as a form of rehabilitation after surgery for scoliosis.

Charlotte said: “My collection was based around a semi-autobiographical narrative themed around how recreational fishing and spending time in nature benefits chronic illnesses and recovery from muscular skeletal surgery.

“I used a lot of heavy weight wools, silks, technical fabric and discarded fishing tackle which was given to me by Mepps (a popular fishing tackle company based in France).

“My time at Salford has been wonderful, very challenging and busy but also extremely rewarding. I’ve learnt a lot about myself, and my confidence has grown in myself as a designer, but the best bit has been meeting such lovely people.

“I hope to start selling my own garments through my own label sometime in the future or returning to Salford in a couple of years to do a Masters.”
