Eamonn Patrick Farrell
Lecturer in Construction Law
Having gained a degree in Geography in 1989 from Trinity and All Saints College I commenced work as a non-cognate graduate Quantity Surveyor with Tarmac Major Projects, working on major highway schemes throughout the UK. I completed my QS training via the RICS non-cognate graduate entry scheme at Wolverhampton Polytechnic and spent the next 11 years working as a QS on major civils works for several national contractors, undertaking a variety of projects including motorway re-construction, railway station re-modelling, environmental improvement works and harbour re-construction works. In 2001 I joined The Football Association as Regional Facilities Manager, undertaking the development of a national facilities programme relating to refurbishment and new build construction of sports related facilities including the construction of multi-sports facilities and sports villages. The work involved delivery of the end-to-end construction process, dealing with a range of clients and in some instances this required the management of complex funding arrangements to enable successful project delivery.
I gained a teaching qualification in 2000 since then have taught in both part-time and full-time capacities across a range of subjects within the Built Environment. I completed an MSc in Project Management in Construction in 2008 and an LLM in Construction Law and Practice in 2014, undertaking both courses at the University of Salford. These qualifications helped in both a professional capacity as well as adding to my teaching portfolio. I have collaborated with industry in relation to the development of bespoke training programmes and have also worked on the development of educational materials across the Built Environment for both traditional delivery and distance-learning purposes.
I have taught a range of subjects across the Built Environment area at Level 3 to Level 6. These include Project Management in Construction, Contract Administration, Construction Law, Professional Practice, Management In Construction, Quantity Surveying, Multi-Disciplinary Project, Sustainability, Health, Safety and Welfare, Construction Economics, Regeneration, Tendering and Estimating, Lean Production and Off-Site Manufacturing.
My research interests are focused on
- transfer of knowledge in HE in relation to the Built Environment
- sustainable development in developing countries.
