Dr Claudia Trillo


Dr. Claudia Trillo is Lecturer in Architecture at the University of Salford, UK. She holds a PhD on Urban Design (2001) and a specialization on Urban Planning and sustainable development (1997). Her academic career has been complemented by an extensive professional experience, both as consultant and as city architect for various local and regional authorities.

Since 2001 she has been teaching mainly in Italy (University of Naples) and in the UK (University of Ulster and University of Salford). She is currently the program leader for the Master of Architecture at the University of Salford and teaches a variety of modules, with a focus on sustainable design and regeneration. She has lectured in several countries, including the USA (MIT, Berkeley, Madison-Wisconsin, Portland, San Diego, UCLA), Iran (Mashad), Europe (Stockolm, Copehnagen, Sofia, Cluj-Napoca, Oulu), Italy (Florence, Venice, Pescara, Ascoli Piceno, Milano, Rome, Reggio Calabria).

She gained international research reputation thanks to an over 20-years academic activity undertook mainly (but not exclusively) in Italy (Interdepartmental Research Center Calza Bini, University Federico II, Naples), UK (Built Environment Research Institute, University of Ulster, UPRISE Research Center, School of Built environment, University of Salford) and US (Fulbright Senior researcher at the San Diego State University and Marie Curie researcher at the Northeastern University of Boston). Since 1994 she has been actively involved in national and European Research projects (1994- 2003, NORDREGIO, Stockolm;  2010-2013: HIDDEN, 7th FP; 2010-2013: BESECURE, 7th FP, as team member; 2010-2014: CLUDS, 7th FP as Unit Contact Point). She is currently Principal Investigator and Research Unit coordinator of a RISE- H2020 research project, MAPS- LED (2014-ongoing), Principal Investigator and coordinator of a UK funded project “Smart Greater Manchester City- Region IT living platform” (2017, HEIF- Industry Collaboration Zone Programme) and Advisor on Cultural Heritage values and related costs in case of natural threats on a research project granted by the Italian Ministry for Education (PRIN, 2017-2020).

She is author of over 100 publications in her field, including 4 books and several peer reviewed papers.

Academic qualifications - Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 27th March 2017, recognition reference:  PR124384 - Qualified at Associate Professor Level in Italy (M.D. 76/2012) since 2013

Professional qualifications - RIBA Chartered Architect since July 2016, RIBA Membership Number:  20017342 - Italian Chartered Architect since April 1997, Ordine degli Architetti, Pianificatori, Paesaggisti e Conservatori della Provincia di Salerno, Membership Number:  1279.
