Welcome to the MA in Social Work - Meet the team!

This session will introduce you to the MA Social Work programme team and provide essential information to support your transition into postgraduate study. You will receive an overview of the programme structure, key academic procedures, and the professional expectations required throughout your training. The session will also outline the standards of conduct, engagement, and readiness for practice that underpin successful progression in social work education at the University of Salford.

This interactive session is designed to help you get to know your peers and begin building a supportive learning community. Through a series of structured activities and informal discussions, you will have the opportunity to connect with others on the programme, share your motivations for studying social work, and start developing the collaborative relationships that are central to effective learning and practice.

Fitness to Practice and first practice placement - Q&A

This session will provide an overview of Fitness to Practice requirements and expectations within the MA Social Work programme, alongside key information about your first practice placement. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about professional standards, conduct, and the processes that underpin readiness for placement learning. The session is designed to clarify expectations and support your preparation for safe and effective practice in placement settings.

This session will support you in completing key onboarding requirements for the MA Social Work programme. A member of the Student Onboarding Team will be present to guide you through your Occupational Health questionnaire, which will initiate your appointment, and to begin your DBS application.

The Onboarding Team will also be available throughout the week on the concourse should you require any further support. In addition, the session will include a group activity, with full details to be provided on Monday.

This session is dedicated to a self-guided campus tour, designed to help you familiarise yourself with key locations and facilities across the University of Salford. To support this, you will take part in a structured treasure hunt activity, offering an opportunity to explore the campus while engaging with your peers, with prizes available.

There will also be an optional Programme Leader drop-in available during this time, should you wish to ask any questions or seek further guidance (Allerton Building, room C604).
