Prosthetics and Orthotics (BSc)

This session will introduce you to the directorate that the P&O programme is part of, to the P&O programme overall, and to the expectations of level 4 students on this programme, including placements, how to get ready for placements and mandatory placement preparation events. Also, you will receive essential information about the P&O programme, including key academic procedures and expected behaviours to succeed in your studies.

This session will introduce students to their personal tutor, who will be their first point of contact for most enquiries throughout their university journey, and it will give an opportunity to explore the campus. – Please check your individual time.

This session will introduce you to vital requirements, such as medical and legal obligations that you have, which you must fulfil for the P&O programme overall, and specifically for dealing clinically with service users at the university and patients on placements, and the session will also reiterate on how to get ready for placements and about mandatory placement preparation events.

More specifically, you will be informed about completing your Occupational Health questionnaire, your DBS application, your Good Health and Good Character form, and your Basic Life Support and Manual Handling sessions, as well as how to prepare for vaccinations and how to book vaccination appointments, whereby the Student Onboarding team will be available throughout the week on the Allerton Concourse.

This session will introduce students to the requirements from international students so they remain compliant with their visa etc, and it will give examples of opportunities at international level, such as placements abroad.

This session will introduce you to your programme leader to learn more about the programme, what is expected of students and what you can expect from the programme.

This session will introduce you to the module Human Biology, which is about key conditions and pathologies, anatomical elements, and physiological processes relevant to P&O clinical work.

This session will introduce you to all the staff on the P&O programme and what their different roles are, which is done in an informal social setting for you to have a chat with the various members of staff.

This session will introduce you to all the current level 5 students to hear what they say about the P&O programme and to ask them questions about their experiences up to now, which is done in an informal social setting for you to have a chat with the various level 5 students.

This session will introduce you to what it is like to work as a prosthetist in a clinical setting with patients, and what to expect in a typical clinical session.

This session introduces the three modules taught during the first trimester. Professionalism in Practice 1 focuses on the core skills required for safe and effective practice, including professional communication, multidisciplinary working, digital safety, and an understanding of the modern Prosthetics and Orthotics clinical landscape. Introduction to P&O Practice covers the fundamental principles of lower limb prosthetic and orthotic theory that underpin clinical practice, while Human Biology explores the key anatomical structures, physiological processes, and common conditions and pathologies relevant to Prosthetics and Orthotics practice.
