Commuting from home
Many of our students live close to campus, so commuting to university is often the easiest option for them. If you choose to join our community of commuter students, we’re well set up with transport links, discounted car parking spaces and on-campus facilities to help you on your way.
Travelling to campus
-
Train
Salford Crescent train station is right between our Peel Park and Frederick Road campuses, so you can get the train directly here from places like Bolton, Wigan, Lancashire and the main Manchester train stations. You might also save money by getting a monthly Greater Manchester Traincard (which lets you travel for free on trams too!) or save 1/3 on train fares with an annual 16-25 Railcard.
-
Bus or tram
There are lots of regular bus routes to our Peel Park and Frederick Road campuses, and if you’re based at MediaCity, there’s a tram stop right outside the campus building.
You can simply tap-and-go using contactless on trams and buses in Greater Manchester - you won't pay more than £2 for a single journey on the bus.
To plan your journey, check out TFGM’s useful guide to getting to the University of Salford on public transport.
-
Car, bike or escooter
If you’re thinking of driving or cycling to the University, we have over 400 spaces for bicycles, on-campus escooter hubs, and over 1,000 car parking spaces across our campuses. We’ve got discounted parking rates for students on our ParkUs website, and options for annual, monthly or weekly passes.

Coming from Manchester city centre
If public transport takes you to Manchester city centre, it’s super easy and inexpensive to carry on your journey to Salford. You can get to our Peel Park campus by bike/escooter from Manchester city centre in around 15 minutes, there are regular buses that take about 20 minutes, or it's a 25-30 minute walk straight up Chapel Street. If you’re based at MediaCity, you can also get one of the many regular buses or trams.

On-campus commuter hubs

Our common rooms in University House and Peel Building (on Peel Park campus) and in Allerton Building (on Frederick Road campus) have been created with commuter students in mind; they feature chill out spaces as well as areas to study, watch TV, and enjoy your lunch with friends.
As well as space to relax, they also have all the extras to help make life easier for you, like kitchen areas with fridges and microwaves, charging points and lockers that you can use between classes.
Student Spaces

In addition to our commuter rooms, you'll also find plenty of spaces across campus to chill out, relax, study or socialise. We have everything from individual study pods to desks for group work, hangout areas which are perfect for when you need to take a well-deserved break or social spaces where you refuel, meet up with friends or wait until your next class.
Making the most of university life
The University of Salford is committed to delivering an excellent student experience to all our students, and you don’t have to live on campus to immerse yourself in student culture. University of Salford Students’ Union is here to represent all Salford students and, as a commuter student, our societies, sports teams, and social events are all available to help make your university experience a memorable one!
