1: Reflect on your learning journey so far
Reflecting on your learning journey will help you identify what went well and what you could do differently in the future.
Developing greater self-awareness and understanding of your individual study preferences, behaviours and experiences shape your learning and professional development. That's why we recommend that you get into the habit of reflecting on your learning journey.
What is reflective practice?
Reflective practice is a method that helps you to think about your experiences and actions in a critical way, with the aim of helping you to learn and improve continuously. It encourages personal and professional growth, boosts confidence and helps you identify areas for development.
What does it involve?
- Set aside time for regular reflection.
- Consider what is going well, what is going less well, how things could be done differently next time, and what knowledge, skills and behaviours you could develop.
- Keep a journal to record your thoughts, insights, and reflections.
- Set specific goals and create an action plan.
- Review your journal and action plan over time to track your progress.
2: Complete the Skills Assessment
- Complete the Academic Skills Reflection to identify your skills gaps. You may be asked to login to your O365 account.
- After you submit your response you will receive a personalised action plan based on your answers.
- Your action plan will be sent to your University email account and will contain links to eLearning that can help you improve your academic skills.
- It should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete the Skills Assessment.
Tip: Prioritise your eLearning activities and don't feel pressured to complete everything on your action plan, as this can be overwhelming. Instead, consider the things you reflected on and focus on the areas you believe will be most beneficial for you right now.
3. Revisit your reflections and action plan
Set yourself a timescale for completing the eLearning identified in your action plan and regularly review your progress. Remember to prioritise your learning so that it isn't overwhelming.
Try to get into the habit of reflecting on your learning journey as it will help you to develop and it is a valuable skill to take with you into the workplace.
