DipHE Esports Enterprise and Management - Dariusz Szymanski

What made you want to pursue a programme in this area?

I have always been interested in video games and wanted to be a professional player. I’ve always been into football and  sports and esports provided a perfect opportunity during covid for me to explore my interests further in the hope of following a career in this area.

What would you say are the benefits of this programme?

I love how there is something for everyone. You find something you are interested in gaming-wise wise and no matter how big or small, you will find a community of people who are also interested in playing. Although a niche area, there is a real sense of community in esports and on the programme itself and that’s something that I really value.

Why did you choose to study a Level 5 Institute of Technology programme?

The programme at Salford is heavily focused on practical sessions which is what attracted me to it. Having the ability to put learning into practice from day one and learning through doing is what drove me to apply for this programme. I learn best from doing, and the fact you get to utilise the brilliant technology available at the university in the esports lab is a massive plus for the programme.

What does your programme involve and what’s the delivery model?

The flexibility is a great feature of the programme, delivered over three days, giving me the ability to do a part-time job around my studies. The programme involves topics such as developing entrepreneurial skills, broadcasting, live streaming, event management and promotion and content creation.

What are your plans following completion of the programme?

I am interested in continuing my studies and am considering the option to ‘top-up’ my Level 5 qualification to a full degree in esports. I would really like to become a content creator, making videos about gaming and live-streaming commentary on esports events. This programme is providing me with the skills and knowledge I need to hopefully shape my future career as a content creator.

What would you say to someone else looking to study the programme?

If you are a hands-on learner and want to understand the business aspect of gaming, then this programme is for you – go for it!
