DipHE Esports Enterprise and Management - Joseph Hadfield

What made you want to pursue a programme in this area?

If I am honest, it’s almost been a happy accident that I ended up studying the esports programme at Salford. I’ve always been a gamer, but wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do at college and beyond. When I saw the esports programme, I thought, why not?!

Why did you choose to study a Level 5 Institute of Technology programme?

The Level 5 programme is incredibly practical, which is brilliant. It’s a great way to learn not just by listening to course content delivered by tutors, but interacting as a group, pitching event ideas and working on them together. The way the course is delivered, allowing us to get ‘stuck in’, it suits me perfectly!

What are your plans following completion of the Level 5 programme?

I’d be interested in undertaking the ‘top-up’ programme to do the full degree and then I’d like to take some time out to develop my ideas around tournaments and pitch these to event organisers. The course content is geared to enable us to work across multiple organisations in various roles. From working freelance to events management and broadcasting, the programme equips us with such a skill set that opens doors to a wide range of careers.

What would you say to someone else looking to study the programme?

I know everyone will say this about their course, but the esports programme is truly industry relevant, with amazing teaching staff and a real, practical, hands-on focus. The tutors are experts in the industry, and each brings and shares their own area of expertise to the programme. The staff are enthusiastic and highly engaging, and some are close in age to us, which gives the added benefit of relatability, which is brilliant. I would highly recommend this programme to others.
