The Salford International Excellence Award

"The Salford International Excellence Awards is a dedicated scholarship for inspiring and talented undergraduate students to help them with tuition fees for the first year of their studies. When I applied to study LLB Law at Salford, I also decided to apply for this scholarship, and I was thrilled to receive the award.

To apply for the Salford International Excellence Award, I had to submit a two-part essay to the scholarship committee. For the first part of the essay, I had to describe my previous successes, both in my academic life and extra-curricular activities, and how these experiences would help me to be successful at Salford. In the second part of the essay, I needed to explain why I wanted to study the course at Salford and how my studies will help me achieve my future ambitions.

Being selected for this scholarship is one of the proudest achievements of my life. It has really helped me to afford my studies and work towards the career I want."

Studying at Salford

"I have experienced some of the best times of my life whilst studying at the University of Salford. I love the course I am studying because I am really interested in advocacy and helping people to solve their problems, which this course is all about. The lecturers are very friendly and supportive – they go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need to succeed.

Outside of my academic life, I have really tried to get involved with lots of different opportunities the University provides. Through the part-time on-campus student recruitment agency, Unitemps, I have found a role as a Student Ambassador within Salford Business School. This role involves being a representative for my course during Open Days and Offer Holder Days, talking to future students about life at Salford and supporting tutors during their presentations.

I’m also involved in three different societies run by the University of Salford’s Students’ Union. The first is the BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) Society, I am also the secretary of this society. All of the members have a shared purpose to create an inclusive environment where the different cultures and backgrounds of all students can be celebrated. I am also a member of the Law Society and the Networking Society. Both societies have helped me to get involved in various networking opportunities and develop employability skills which will help me in my future career.

As a result of taking part in various networking opportunities, events and activities, I received the Employability Award from the Dean of Salford Business School. To win this award, I had to show I was engaging with opportunities to develop the top ten employability skills Salford Business School believe you need to succeed in your career. I was truly honoured to win this award."

My advice

"If I had my time over again, I would always make the same decision to come to study at the University of Salford. During my time at Salford, I have told myself to stay strong and never give up and I believe these thoughts have allowed me to experience continued success. I am looking forward to more adventures and experiences during my remaining time here."
