Would you like to stand out from the crowd and study on one of our exciting and industry-ready courses? With our Study Abroad Programme, you can study with us for either a semester or a full academic year and experience what it's like to be a student in the UK. You can choose from nearly 900 modules across a range of schools and receive credit back to your home institution - check our FAQs section on this page.

We're also committed to supporting all students from a widening participation background and providing them with fair and equal access to their education.

Study Abroad is a fee-paying programme for both European and international students and is an alternative option to our two exchange programmes: Erasmus+ and International Exchange.

Top three reasons to study with us

When you arrive, you'll receive dedicated welcome and induction events, collection from the airport, support and guidance with finding accommodation, student mentoring and on-site support throughout your stay with us.

We're just 10 minutes away from the lively multicultural city of Manchester, where you'll be joining a community of over 3,000 international students from more than 100 countries, allowing you to meet people from all different backgrounds.

We're constantly investing in our students, and as a result have opened a tech-savvy campus at MediaCityUK, introduced a modern Arts and Media building to the heart of our main campus, and completed a £6.2m refurbishment to our main library.

Experience student life at Salford

Take part in our Study Abroad Programme and gain an authentic experience of what it’s like to study at one of the world’s most international universities (Times Higher Education).

We also have great transport links, with Manchester airport serving as an international hub, connecting hundreds of countries to the city. London can be easily reached by train in just two hours, while the Scottish capital Edinburgh is a three hour train journey away. If you want to explore the local areas, we're just ten minutes away from Manchester city centre where you'll find restaurants, bars, clubs and high street stores to suit all tastes and styles.

During your time as a student with us, you will study alongside our current students and receive the same teaching and support as your peers. You can also apply to live in our student accommodation, which is another great opportunity to make friends with students from the UK and across the world.

How much does it cost?

The tuition fee for the 2023/24 academic year is £10,100 for one semester or £17,200 for a full academic year. You can join us in either September or January and our semesters generally last 14 weeks. Fees for students from our International Exchange and Erasmus+ partner universities are £14,200 for a full year and £8,600 for one semester. Future year fees are to be confirmed and are subject to increase.

What can I study?

Modules are available in a range of subject areas across a number of our schools. Have a look at the modules available for each school.

International and EU students staying for one trimester only are required to enter the UK as a visitor, or on a Student visa if they are planning to work whilst studying. International and EU students staying for a full academic year are required to obtain a Student visa before they travel to the UK. Please note: all International and EU students applying for a programme which might involve a work component (e.g. Performing Arts, Music, Fashion etc.) will be required to apply for a Student visa even if studying for one trimester only.

For further information on visas and the various documentation required in order to obtain one, please visit the UK Government visa check page.

Applicants wanting a CAS number so that they can apply for a Student visa (i.e. those coming to Salford for a full year or those coming for one semester but who wish to work while they are here) are required to provide a UKVI or Academic IELTS 6.0 overall (with no individual element below 5.5) or an alternative acceptable English Language qualification as listed on our English Language Requirements page.

Applicants coming to Salford for one semester only on a Visitor Visa (who therefore do not need a CAS number for a Student Visa) will have to meet the English language requirements outlined in our inter-institutional agreement with their home institution. They will also need to sign an English Language Declaration confirming that they will only stay for one semester.

All students undertaking an English programme e.g. English Language, English Literature etc., are required to submit a valid - not older than two years - C1 English language certificate).

Please note that some modules are subject to change. Timetables and class schedules are not released until a few weeks before the start of the trimester.
