GRADUATION 2021: Master's graduate lands a job with one of the world’s largest co-operatives
A Data Science graduate from the University of Salford has not only achieved a Master’s (with a Distinction) in a highly sought subject, she has also secured a role at The Co-operative Group’s head office.
Priya Rameshkumar enrolled on the MSc in Data Science programme with hopes to work in the industry. She said: “The best features of the course that attracted me were that the topics taught were very relevant to what was required by employers, and the three-month industry placement which was not available at any other universities.
“I chose Salford as they have good industry links and they allow you to gain industry experience through an internship and potentially obtain a job at the end of your studies, which is exactly what happened for me.”
All Data Science students undertake an industry placement as part of their studies to provide practical learning and enhance employability. Priya added: “The course is ideal to venture into a data science role as it covers all the important topics that are required in the industry. All the topics are taught with an emphasis on practical work.”
When asked what her advice is to those wishing to enter this growing sector she commented: “The course is excellent for anyone who wants to progress or enter into the industry. If this is the sector you want to pursue a career in, the course will give you the edge and the differentiator that employers are looking for.”
