GRADUATION 2021: Up-and-coming designer Tia Brown set to take fashion industry by storm

Fashion designer Tia Brown is set to graduate with a showcase at New York Fashion Week, industry placemen at couture brand Victor and Rolf and fashion illustration award nomination all under her belt.

Credited by her BA (Hons) Fashion Design Programme Leader, Bashir Aswat as “an exemplar of studentship and a wonderful human being”, Tia’s studies at Salford have been nothing short of monumental.

During both her first and second years at Salford, Tia was selected to showcase her work at New York Fashion Week. For her industry-based placement module, she applied to work for well-known couture brand Victor and Rolf. Up against thousands of other students worldwide, she was successful in being one of only a handful accepted onto their placement programme.

Tia is fresh from winning the Art and Design award at the University’s annual Student Create Awards on account of “demonstrating her sense of commitment and perseverance with grit, professionalism and conviction.”

She was also recently shortlisted for Graduate Fashion Week's Fashion Illustration Award, placing her among the top ten fashion illustrators in the UK for the competition. Tia submitted an illustration from her final year collection and from there was invited to go to London to present in front of an industry panel.

Tia says “My time at university has created the most amazing and memorable moments of my life. This nomination means a lot to me because I have worked so hard to get where I am now. My fashion design course has helped me to shape my creativity into a style I can be proud of and confidently project out into the world.”

In the future Tia aspires to continue working in the fashion industry and one day have her own brand.
