GRADUATION 2020: Graduate receives the Biomedical Science President Award 2020

A first-class graduate from The University of Salford has received The Institute of Biomedical Science President’s Prize.

Zahra Alhumaidi graduated with a BSc in Biomedicine with Professional Experience receiving industry recognition for her accredited programme of study.

Dr Gemma Lace, Senior Lecturer in Biomedicine said: “Zahra was a role model student and exceptional in many areas.  She worked tirelessly at raising awareness of the world of Biomedicine to the public.

“She was an active member on the Biomedicine Outreach Committee, established the Salford Biomedicine Society and held the position as a Greater Manchester Ambassador leading on school outreach sessions promoting STEM careers.  She represented the University and the research that we do at external events including science festivals.  We would like to congratulate Zahra on achieving a First class in her degree and wish her lots of luck in her career.”

Zahra’s passion for Biomedicine was captured on a BBC Bitesize video that looked at her research as well as raising awareness of the many careers in this sector.  Whilst studying, she was awarded a Physiological Society Vacation Scholarship, presented her research at the Physiological Society Conference and shortlisted for a prestigious Rob Clarke Award.

She is currently looking at embarking on a research role as a Biomedical Scientist.
