Commuting from home

Students in Manchester city centre with a tram behind

Many of our students live close to campus, so commuting to university is often the easiest option for them. If you choose to join our community of commuter students, we’re well set up with transport links and on-campus facilities to help you on your way.

Travelling to campus

Salford Crescent

Salford Crescent train station is situated between our Peel Park and Frederick Road campuses, easily connecting you to Manchester city centre and beyond. Our Peel Park and Frederick Road campuses are also perfectly located for a number of main bus routes.

If you’re based at MediaCity, there’s a tram stop right outside the campus building. You can also use your student ID card to catch the number 50 bus between our Peel Park or Frederick Road and MediaCity campuses for free.

If you’re coming in by bike or car, we have over 400 spaces for bicycles and over 1,000 car parking spaces across our campuses. Annual and monthly parking permits are available to buy, or you can simply pay as you go.

If you’re thinking of using public transport, Transport for Greater Manchester (TFGM) have a handy journey planner on their website to help you work out your best route. They've also created a handy guide that lists the different transport options for the University.

On-campus commuter hubs

Our common rooms in University House and Peel Building (on Peel Park campus) and in Allerton Building (on Frederick Road campus) have been created with commuter students in mind; they feature chill out spaces as well as areas to study, watch TV, and enjoy your lunch with friends.

As well as space to relax, they also have all the extras to help make life easier for you, like kitchen areas with fridges and microwaves, charging points and lockers that you can use between classes.

Student Spaces

Study abroad

In addition to our commuter rooms, you'll also find plenty of spaces across campus to chill out, relax, study or socialise. We have everything from individual study pods to desks for group work, hangout areas which are perfect for when you need to take a well-deserved break or social spaces where you refuel, meet up with friends or wait until your next class.

Making the most of university life

The University of Salford is committed to delivering an excellent student experience to all our students, and you don’t have to live on campus to immerse yourself in student culture. University of Salford Students’ Union is here to represent all Salford students and, as a commuter student, our societies, sports teams, and social events are all available to help make your university experience a memorable one!
