Why did you choose to study an apprenticeship?

I wanted to do an apprenticeship as the workplace experience you get whilst studying is invaluable. It also allows you to put what you learn at university into practice and put real life examples into your assignments.

Looking back over your time on the apprenticeship so far, how have you found the whole experience?

I really enjoyed my apprenticeship. It was hard at times juggling work, university and Covid but overall, the experience was great. I made some really good friends on my course and we were able to learn from each other as we all had slightly different roles within the industry.

How would you describe the support that you’ve received from the University of Salford?

he support from the lectures was fab. It was very clear that they wanted you to succeed and they were always there to provide additional support.

What has been your proudest achievement on your apprenticeship to date?

Graduating with a 1st and passing my APC first time.

What do you want to do now you have completed your apprenticeship?

I’m excited to continue my career at HBD and be involved in the day-to-day property management of the portfolio as well as more strategic asset management.

What would you say to someone considering an apprenticeship?

I would recommend an apprenticeship to anyone! It’s great to come out of university debt free and being paid. An apprenticeship is very different to being a full-time university student and it’s important that people understand the level of work that is required.

What advice would you give to other women who are interested in pursuing a career in construction?

Do it! It’s a great and fast paced industry to work in. The industry’s view towards women is changing for the better and it’s becoming more inclusive.
