Alumni volunteering

Alumni volunteering is a vital aspect of our community. Our alumni volunteers help to build a bridge between the past, present, and future, fostering a strong, supportive community. Volunteering offers you a chance to give back, share your valuable experience - whether professional or personal - and connect with fellow alumni, current students and University staff members. You can play a significant role in shaping the future of our students and our university through a variety of volunteering opportunities including events, testimonials, advice, panels, advisory boards, speaking opportunities and more.

Why volunteer?

Sharing your time and talent with our University community has numerous benefits:

  • Impact: Your expertise and experience can significantly influence the career paths and personal development of our students. Sharing your journey can provide students with real-world perspectives, reassure them and inspire them
  • Networking: Volunteering allows you to expand your professional network by connecting with other alumni, students, and staff members. These connections can lead to new opportunities and collaborations
  • Fulfilment: Many of our alumni find personal satisfaction in giving back to their university community and helping the next generation. Volunteering can be a rewarding experience that allows you to see the tangible impact of your contributions
  • Skill development: Volunteering can help you develop new skills and gain new perspectives that are valuable in your professional life. Engaging in different activities can enhance your leadership, communication and organisational skills
  • Community: Maintaining your connections with the University keeps you close in our exciting community that is constantly growing and evolving

Volunteering Opportunities

We're currently building the foundations to expand our volunteering programme, looking for sustainable ways that you can give back through your time or expertise to support the growth and development of our students and university. If you're interested and able, you can also give back through donations.

We will update you in 2025 when we have everything in place - make sure you have consented to receiving our newsletters via our 'Update your Details' form, are part of our LinkedIn group, are signed up to From Salford, or follow us on social media (Facebook and X).

Volunteering opportunities
Guest lectures, talks, panels and roundtables
  • Volunteer to deliver lectures, seminars or talks. Share your professional journey, industry insights and experiences with current students. This can be done in-person or virtually, allowing for flexibility in participation.
  • Participate in alumni / industry specific panels and roundtable discussions. Share your insights on industry trends, career development, and other relevant topics with students and fellow alumni. This can help students understand specific career paths and trends in areas such as technology, healthcare, arts and finance.
Testimonials, advice and blogs

Contribute written or video testimonials about your time at Salford or your career journey. These stories can inspire, reassure and motivate current students and prospective students. Sharing your experiences can also highlight the diverse career paths available to graduates. These can be shared on the University website and social media, providing inspiration and practical advice to students.

You can share advice with students by completing our online form. We will also email specific cohorts (e.g. alumni from a specific course) from time to time asking for you to submit a testimonial. To receive these, make sure your contact details are up to date and that you have consented to us sending you emails.

Event organisation

Help organise or participate in alumni events, such as reunions, networking events and panel discussions. Your involvement can enhance the experience for attendees and contribute to the success of these events. You can find out more about campus tours and self-organised reunions or, if you're interested in helping organise or participate in any other alumni events, please email us: alumni@salford.ac.uk

Careers Fairs

Represent your company at career fairs and networking events. Provide students with information about job opportunities and career paths within your organisation. Find out more on our 'Recruiting students' webpage.

Provide live briefs and placement opportunities

Help students get real, hands-on experience by delivering a live brief for students to work on or by creating a placement opportunity in your organisation. Please contact our team with some information about how you'd like to work with students by emailing alumni@salford.ac.uk and we will connect you with the right people.
