What can I do with a built environment degree?
See your future built environment
The built environment is one of the world’s largest employment sectors, providing a wealth of opportunities in the design of cities, infrastructure, and urban development.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, construction continues to be in great demand, with a phenomenal scale of development ahead of many other European city regions.
As one of the UK’s leading employment sectors, there is no better place in the UK to study a built environment degree than Salford. Located at the heart of Greater Manchester, surrounded by a rich architectural heritage from the industrial revolution, and with exciting new skyscrapers rising on our skyline, we have everything you need to start your built environment journey.
BECOME A CONSTRUCTION PROFESSIONAL
Michelle Heath studied HNC Construction and later obtained her master’s degree. She stayed in touch with her lecturer who had contacts with Barratt Group where she completed her placement and was offered a role as an Assistant Site Manager. As you can see, it’s a fast-moving sector which provides room for progression.
DETECT BUILDING DEFECTS
Charlotte France, a Salford Building Surveying alumna who graduated less than 10 years ago, is weeks away from achieving a milestone moment in her career that has seen her manage the construction of our new £65 million building. As a Project Manager, she is supervising the design of the building and detecting building defects.
EXPLORE DIGITAL MANAGEMENT TOOLS
At Salford, you will be able to explore digital management tools necessary to become a highly employable construction professional. Mitchell Bowden is currently in his final year combining part time study with his recent Trainee Site Manager role at Morgan Sindall Construction. After successfully completing his placement year on the site of our new SEE building, he has now landed a permanent role with the contractor.
PROPERTY AND SUSTAINBILITY ISSUES
As a Real Estate Development and Management professional, you’ll have the option to choose from diverse career opportunities relating to property and sustainability issues.
