Introduction to Higher Education

Choosing the right university and course is an important decision, but it can be difficult to know where to start with over 37,000 courses in the UK to choose from. Our introduction to HE talk will provide students with information on the benefits of university study, how to choose a course, finance, accommodation and the UCAS process.

This presentation is suitable for students considering progressing on to university after their current studies, mature students thinking of returning to education or changing their career, and also for parents/supporters who want to find out more.

Why Salford?

This presentation covers more detailed information about the University of Salford and why students should consider applying for a place to study here with us. It offers students an insight into what the Salford and Manchester areas have to offer, including a virtual tour of campus and a detailed look at what many of the different academic departments can offer potential students. There is also a whistle-stop tour of the campus accommodation and its facilities and what support is available to students.

Personal Statements

The Personal Statement is the one chance a student has to show passion for their subject area to universities. Our presentation provides students with good and bad examples along with a step-by-step guide to structuring a Personal Statement that makes an impact, including hints and tips for what to include - and what to avoid!

Budgeting Skills

At the University of Salford, we understand that students in particular are feeling the effects of the cost of living crisis. This interactive workshop will give students an insight into how they can best manage their finances at university and give them an insight into the real terms costs associated with university.

Using a budgeting template, our staff and student ambassadors will provide prospective students with their own personal tips and tricks for budgeting at university.

Student Life

Our student life presentation will give prospective students an insight into the main differences between studying at college and at university. Led by our recent graduates, students will hear about their personal experiences of university, including their best tips for what to expect and what they wish they had done differently when they were making their choices.

Applying to UCAS

This presentation offers prospective students a step by step guide of how to apply for university through UCAS. It will show them what the website looks like at every stage, what important information they will need on hand before they start, and when they can expect to hear back about their applications.
