What is a Sports Science Degree Like?

Jonathan's Story

Why you should study Sports Science

The relaxed and informal nature of the teaching and learning was one of the best things about this course, as was the assessment component which works differently to other pathway choices because of how applicable to the real world it was.

I would recommend both the BSc and MSc courses because of the laid-back nature of the taught sessions, the work placement opportunities available on both courses and the career progression opportunities for those who are hard-working and proactive.

Why study Sports Science at Salford?

I graduated from the Sports Science course at Salford in 2019. The opportunity to specialise in Performance Analysis attracted me to the University of Salford as it was the only university in the North West that offered this opportunity at the time, I started studying at the University of Salford. It was great to have the opportunity to put theory into practice via work placements and experience life as a Sports Performance Analyst as part of the course.

Sports Science Placements

I undertook a few different work placements as part of my course; in years one and two I worked as an Academy Performance Analyst at Oldham Athletic FC and Salford City FC respectively and in my final year I worked as a First Team Technical Recruitment Analyst at Bury FC.

Master's degrees in Sports Science

I am now studying the MSc in Performance Analysis at Salford. The BSc course helped me prepare for this as it provided me with a sound working knowledge of contemporary topics in performance analysis. I’ve found the Master’s course to be a very enjoyable experience overall. I’ve particularly enjoyed mixing with and learning from likeminded people, learning more about the range of Performance Analysis topics covered in taught sessions as well as the applied nature of the assessed work
