Apprenticeships and safeguarding

The information on the Prevent and safeguarding pages is also relevant to apprentices. Those that support them should ensure that they read and understand this information. Additionally, all apprentices have to complete mandatory training on Safeguarding and Prevent.

For university colleagues

We all play a vital role in safeguarding our apprentices and, as such, it is important that colleagues are aware of how to detect and report a safeguarding issue. All safeguarding concerns require to be logged and it is important that you seek advice from safeguarding@salford.ac.uk.

Information for employers

Safeguarding relates to the protection of the health and wellbeing of children, young people and vulnerable adults, enabling them to be free from abuse, neglect or exploitation.

We all play a vital role in safeguarding our apprentices and, as such, it is important that employers are aware of how to detect and report a safeguarding issue.

Our Safeguarding and Prevent pages explains what this means for the University and employers in much more detail. Please ensure that you read these pages.

All employers with apprentices should have an awareness of the following:

  • Safeguarding
  • The Prevent Duty
  • British Values

More information on this can be found on Safeguarding Apprentices: Employer Responsibilities.

Information for apprentices

There is plenty of information on the Safeguarding pages on what to do if you need help. The mandatory training you are required to undertake will also take you through what support is available. If you have not done the training yet, it can be accessed through the Training page. You can also contact the Safeguarding Team via email if you have any concerns concerning yourself, one of your peers, teaching staff or an employer.

British Values

The Department for Education have reinforced the need ‘to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all educational institutions to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs’.

The University of Salford is committed to upholding and actively promoting these values.

Our learners will develop an understanding of respect and tolerance through:

  • Our chaplaincy, offering multi-faith events throughout the calendar year, and a purpose built multi-faith centre where students of all faiths and or no faith can equally find space to socialise, pray and reflect.  Find more information about our Faith Centre.
  • Through our Respect, Culture & Behaviours team where anybody can report an incident around hate, sexual misconduct and violence or discrimination.
  • Salford Proud, developing understanding and respect for our LGBTQ+ community.
  • Volunteering, work experience and mentoring programmes.
  • University Code of Conduct and our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Statement.
