Biography

I am a Welsh composer and researcher, making music which seeks to cross stylistic boundaries between Anglo-Welsh traditional music, popular music, and contemporary Classical repertoire. I also have an active interest in both the theory and practice of music and narrative, a topic which is the focus of a number of my compositional and academic outputs. I am a keen producer and mix engineer, I have composed soundtracks for several films, short and full-length, and I am also a pianist, cellist, guitarist and singer.

Areas of Research

Within my work, and creative output, as a composer, I am particularly interested in:
– The identity-forming process of compositional engagement with existing repertoire
– The interaction of Western art music with folk music and culture
– Music and narrative
– Creative studio techniques
