Biography

Nikita Mascarenhas is an internationally trained and registered physiotherapist who has transitioned into academic practice within the Physiotherapy programme at the University of Salford. Originally from Mumbai, India, she completed her undergraduate physiotherapy training before moving to the UK in 2016 to pursue an MSc. Her cross-cultural clinical and academic journey has shaped a broad, inclusive perspective on healthcare education.

Nikita has worked across public and private healthcare sectors in both India and the UK. She most recently held the role of First Contact Practitioner (FCP) before transitioning into higher education, where she now serves as a Clinical Skills Tutor. She contributes to teaching across undergraduate Levels 4, 5, and 6, and is actively involved in the MSc programme, delivering postgraduate sessions and supervising MSc research projects. Her academic interests include inclusive education, curriculum innovation, and the integration of digital communication and artificial intelligence in teaching. Nikita is passionate about creating inclusive learning environments where all students feel seen, valued, and empowered to succeed.

Outside of academia, she is an avid traveller and dancer with a love for Bollywood and Cuban salsa. She speaks a bit of Italian (po' di Italiano) and Spanish (un poco de español), and is currently learning to swim, embracing lifelong learning both professionally and personally.

Teaching

Module lead: Spinal Assessment and Management, 20 credit level 5 module on BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy programme
Nikita is actively involved in teaching undergraduate modules at Levels 4, 5, and 6, has delivered sessions at the postgraduate level, and has also supervised MSc research projects.
