Biography

Massimo Preziuso is a Lecturer in Financial Technology in Salford Business School - Manchester, where he teaches Fintech, Sustainable Finance, and Financial Crises. Previously, he was an assistant professor in innovative technologies for inclusive and sustainable finance in the High-tech Business and Entrepreneurship (HBE) Department, University of Twente. While there, he was part of the research project SFIDE (Strengthening financial inclusion through digitalisation in Europe), funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB). He was also principal Investigator of ‘COVID-19 and crowdfunding: an investigation on impact-oriented entrepreneurship projects in 2020’ research project, financed by BMS Covid-19 Fund. His academic experience includes previous positions as a senior postdoctoral researcher at University College Cork (UCC) in the SFI funded FINTECHNEXT project, and another as postdoctoral researcher at University of Naples (artificial intelligence for sustainable investing). Moreover, over the last years, he has collaborated and interacted with various research institutions and multinationals.
His professional experience includes the start-up of an innovation-driven think tank, the scientific direction of a sustainability-focused foundation, and various roles for banks and investment companies. In 2021, he was appointed Chair of the Business and Impact Council of the UNESCO's International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI). In 2023, he joined the Innovation Advisory Group (IAG) of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), in the United Kingdom.
He holds a PhD in economics at LUISS Guido Carli in Rome, including a visiting research period at the London School of Economics and Peking University. His academic background also comprises a MEng. degree in management engineering at the University of Naples Federico II, and MSc. degrees in e-business at Polytechnic of Turin, and in public finance at Sapienza University of Rome.
